What is melasma? Why is it common among Moroccan women?
Melasma is brown patches on the forehead, cheeks and above the upper lip. It worsens in summer and fades in winter. It is very common in Morocco because of: year-round strong sun, hormonal changes (pregnancy, contraception), and hard water weakening the skin barrier. Each of the three boosts melanin production.
The scientifically proven treatment: 3 fronts
1. Brightening activation at night
A serum with alpha-arbutin, kojic acid and tranexamic acid stops the tyrosinase enzyme that produces melanin. The Triple Action Serum combines all three at effective concentrations: Alpha-Arbutin 3%, Kojic 1%, Tranexamic 3%.
2. Glow and antioxidant protection in the morning
Vitamin C removes the free radicals that worsen pigmentation and supports gradual brightening. A stable derivative (Ascorbyl Glucoside) with no burning or irritation.
3. Sunscreen — the second half of the treatment
Without SPF50 every morning, the first two fronts are cancelled. UVA passes through clouds and glass, and melasma returns from a single week of sun. Sunscreen is what makes the treatment stick.
Things that worsen melasma (avoid them)
- Sun exposure without sunscreen — even 15 minutes is enough for melasma to return
- Burning mixtures (lemon acid, yeast) — they irritate skin and deepen pigmentation
- Brightening without protection — exfoliating without SPF makes skin more sun-sensitive
- Stopping the treatment when spots fade — melasma returns if you stop early; consistency is 3-6 months
How long does the treatment take?
Freshness appears in 2-3 weeks, and spots clearly fade from 6-8 weeks. Deep melasma (recurring for years) needs 3-6 months of consistency. The key: consistency, not intensity — daily sunscreen + nightly serum, not an impatient weekend burst.

Does melasma disappear permanently?
Melasma can be managed effectively but rarely cured permanently — it returns with sun and hormones if protection stops. Consistency with sunscreen is what makes results last.
What is the best serum for melasma in Morocco?
The best melasma serum combines alpha-arbutin + kojic acid + tranexamic acid + niacinamide in one formula. The Eclara Triple Action Serum targets all four at once (230 MAD), with SPF50 sunscreen as mandatory support.
Melasma during pregnancy — what is safe?
During pregnancy, avoid retinol and strong acids. Safe options: reasonable-dose alpha-arbutin, vitamin C derivative, niacinamide, and sunscreen. See our dedicated pregnancy-safe routine article.
